Only one family weaves the Muñeca (dolls), a mother and daughter team. The artists Rosamelia Cunana and her mother Señora de Cunana are from Sambù (Embera Comarca) and both members of the Embera tribe. The dolls take around 2 months to create with approximately an 8 hour work day.
The male figure symbolizes an expression of survival. He represents the food in the house and therefore carries a spear or arrow with him on his journey. The arrow and spear also represent defense against any enemy tribes.
The female figure is the companion to the man, she is identified with a basket because they represent bring utensils, vegetables and household goods. Generally the couple live together in all human endeavors of life, working together in the field.
